The Power of Language

The Power of Language

The psychedelic philosopher, Terance McKenna once said, "The world is made up of words. And if you know the words the world is made of, you can make of it whatever you wish." This reminds us of the power of language to not only just shape and inform the world but to transform the world. Thru the ages, sages have philosophized about why and how the spoken word is so powerful in manifesting in tangible reality. I’m not here to tell you what’s THE TRUTH or what’s so for you, but here are some references to this idea in ancient texts.

• In the ancient texts of the Upanishads, it says ‘In the beginning there was the word and the word was Om.’ There was a time when no thing existed. Only still silent space. Then out of the nothing came something. The first movement from the un-manifest to the manifest is known as the vibration of Om.
• References found in the bible: Genesis 1:3 "The earth was formless and void, and darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was moving over the surface of the waters. Then God said, "Let there be light"; and there was light." Psalm 33:6,9 “By the word of the LORD were the heavens made; and all the host of …"

The idea is that existing beyond the physical realm is your mind. Thoughts are in essence un-manifested potentiality. They are the seeds of creation. As a result, your thoughts are one of the most powerful tools that you have to direct consciousness - taking it from still silent space into physical existence. (Wow, what a marvelous gift you have residing within you now!)

Then take that unmanifest reality and, thru the act of speaking it, bring even more attention, intention and energy to it and viola… the seed drops from the tree of your consciousness into the fertile soil of universal energy and is brought to life. The potential held in the seeds of our thoughts are made manifest through speech and action.

Everything you see around you that is man-made was once a thought in a person’s mind; bridges, skyscrapers, wars and social movements. So if you want to create something new in your life, then you can do so by harnessing the power of your thoughts and word.
My mantra is VISUALIZE, VOCALIZE & ACTUALIZE.

But don’t take my word for it or even the words of the ancients. Answer for yourself from your experience. Why do you think the word is so powerful?
